Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Elixson - Founders Retired
Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Elixson - Founders Retired
The year was 1968 and Mr. Kenneth Elixson began a business relationship with Mr. Clyde Hall of Theressa, Florida.  Mr. Elixson and Mr. Hall supplied the poultry industry with sawdust and shavings for bedding.  In 1972 Mr. Hall retired and Mr. Elixson kept supplying bedding for all the farmers in the area.  By the mid seventies, the poultry industry had slowed down and Mr. Elixson began to expand into the pine bark and mulch business.  Purchasing the bark and mulch from local mills, he supplied many of the landscapers and nurseries in the area.

In 1981, Mr. Elixson purchased a mulch grinder and began producing his own cypress mulch.  Business was good and a second grinder was put on line in 1984.  Within two years the business had outgrown these two grinders and a larger one was purchased to replace the two smaller ones.

The landscape industry was expanding and in 1987 a shaker screen was refitted from a mining company.  This allowed the company to screen pine bark into more sizes that the industry was demanding.  An expansion in 1992 added two more screens to the operation and in the years between '94 and '06 nine more screens have been added to make our mill capable of producing 4500 yards of pine bark per day.

Colored mulches were becoming popular and in 2004 a mulch coloring and grinding machine was installed.  With our location situated in the middle of pine country in Northeast Florida, the supply of virgin pine wood is plentiful.  This allows us to produce our colored mulches without using cut lumber or ground wooden pallets.  Our mulches are made with only natural pine and cypress.

Delivering bulk loads of the finest barks and mulches in the industry for close to forty years.  In 2007 Elixson Wood Products, LLC installed our first bagging plant.  This allows us the opportunity to supply our top quality products to a segment of the landscape industry that is unable to handle bulk deliveries.
